Apply to Vote By Mail
When using the online application, please enter your first and last name (no middle name), address (including Street Direction and Street Name) and zip code to proceed. Please do not leave any spaces before or after numerical value in the online form.
Vote By Mail ballots are tentatively scheduled to start shipping on September 26, 2024.
When you apply online to Vote By Mail, the Election Board will send you emails:

When your application is accepted,
-
When your ballot is sent to you,
-
When the Election Board receives your Ballot Return Envelope, and
-
When your ballot has been processed and counted.
You will receive an email when your ballot is mailed. All Vote By Mail ballots come with postage-paid Ballot Return Envelopes.

Where To Vote
For Election Day on November 5, 2024, voters may choose to vote in one of the following ways:

At your precinct polling place from 6:00am to 7:00pm

Please note: you may only vote at your assigned precinct polling place; if you try to vote at another precinct polling place, you will be asked to vote a Provisional ballot

At one of 51 vote centers open from 6:00am to 7:00pm

50 Ward sites and the downtown Supersite (191 N. Clark) will be open as vote centers on Election Day

Please note: any voter may vote at any vote center on Election Day, no matter where they live in the city

To Vote in Illinois:
-
You must be a United States Citizen.
-
You must be at least 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election and turn 18 on or before the date of the General or Consolidated Election (16 year olds may preregister to vote).

You must live in your election precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.
-
You must not be serving a sentence of confinement in any penal institution as a result of a conviction.

You may not claim the right to vote anywhere else.


Starting January 1, 2024, 16-year-olds may pre-register to vote online through the Illinois State Board of Elections website. 16-year-olds will have their application held in abeyance until voting age.
To vote in the upcoming 2024 elections, you must be 17 years old on or before the date of the Primary Election (3/19/2024) and turn 18 on or before the date of the General Election (11/5/2024).
